Financial Mathematics Basics: Quantitative Finance & Computational Methods

Embark on a structured journey through the world of financial mathematics with this comprehensive guide. This book provides a solid foundation in the essential principles and methods required for sound financial analysis and decision-making.
Beginning with the mathematical fundamentals of finance, you will explore core concepts such as interest and compound interest calculations, annuity and amortization accounting, as well as present and future value determinations. The text further delves into investment appraisal techniques, including net present value methods, internal rate of return analysis, and annuity methods, providing the tools to assess project viability. Key financial analysis instruments are also covered, focusing on liquidity analysis, profitability ratios, and the evaluation of capital structure and debt.
The second section addresses corporate finance, examining capital structure optimization, including the weighted average cost of capital. It details strategies for internal financing through retained earnings and depreciation, alongside external financing options like equity financing and corporate bond issuance.
Transitioning to market finance, the book covers the valuation of stocks and bonds using dividend discount models and multiplier methods. It introduces key topics in quantitative finance, such as Markowitz portfolio optimization and the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). You will also gain insights into computational finance through the modeling of algorithmic trading strategies and the identification of arbitrage opportunities.
Finally, the guide explores financial engineering, explaining the valuation of derivatives such as forwards, futures, swaps, and options using established models like the binomial model and the Black-Scholes-Merton model. The construction and analysis of structured financial products are also detailed, equipping you with a broad understanding of modern mathematical finance.
