Roots of Survival: Discover Ancestral African Healing Traditions and Practices

What knowledge about healing existed long before modern medicine—and how did African communities preserve it across centuries of disruption?

If you are passionate about cultural history, ethnobotany, or African diaspora heritage, you may have asked questions like:
• Why are authentic, historically grounded resources about ancestral Black medicine so difficult to find?
• How did African healing traditions survive colonization, forced migration, and cultural suppression?
• What can historical plant knowledge reveal about how communities approached health and survival?
Roots of Survival explores these questions through historical research, cultural analysis, and ethnobotanical insight. Drawing from perspectives in anthropology, history, and traditional knowledge systems, the book examines how African societies developed sophisticated approaches to health long before modern medical institutions.
Rather than presenting simplified remedies, this book focuses on the cultural knowledge systems that connected healing with community, environment, and spirituality.
