The Eldest Son

A wealthy family’s sense of superiority is challenged when the eldest son decides to marry a woman from a lower social standing. The ensuing domestic crisis reveals the deep-seated prejudices and the fragility of the family’s moral foundations. Galsworthy uses the conflict to explore the tension between tradition and individual freedom in the early 20th century. It is a compelling drama that questions the value of inheritance and the true meaning of nobility.
