The Tears That Taught Me Re-Imagined

The Tears That Taught Me Re-Imagined by Vicki Brooks
For thirty years, Vicki Brooks performed the role of the “good girl,” prioritizing everyone else’s comfort while editing her own pain. She was taught by the wrong classrooms—a house of conditional love, a church that framed pain as punishment, a cruel mirror, and weaponized silence. Convinced her worth was tied entirely to her usefulness, she tried to outrun her trauma. But after hitting her breaking point on a bathroom floor at 2 a.m., she realized that outrunning the pain was no longer an option.
Inspired by the spirit and themes of Morgan Richard Olivier’s original work, The Tears That Taught Me Re-Imagined is a deeply personal collection of original poetry and prose. Brooks shares sixteen original poems written from “the inside of the tears,” guiding readers through the profound process of unlearning toxic beliefs and finding true healing.
Key Themes Explored in This Collection:

• Pain as a Curriculum: Reframing suffering from a consequence or punishment into a vital enrollment in life’s deepest lessons.
• Unapologetic Honesty: Giving yourself permission to stop editing your tears, prayers, and grief to make the people around you comfortable.
• The Power of Pruning: Understanding that cutting back toxic relationships, draining careers, and old versions of yourself is necessary to truly bloom.
• Finding the Right Ground: Encouraging readers to outgrow the small, restrictive “pots” they were planted in by society and root themselves in the open, limitless ground.

The Tears That Taught Me Re-Imagined is for anyone ready to stop treating their tears as a malfunction. It is a powerful invitation to embrace your raw, unedited self and finally meet the beautiful, unbroken woman that the tears built.
